The Weird Skill Robert Patrick Learned To Be A Terminator

How do you become a relentless, homicidal robot?

Fun as it is, the Terminator franchise does strike me as nonsense. Why would the robots look like humans? They'd probably kill us more effectively as some kind of fast, tiny insect. The only point of making them look human would be to get people to trust them, and for that they'd need realistic emotions. But silly as I find the concept, I can't help but admire Robert Patrick's preparation for his role as the terrifying T-1000.

Is Playing a Robot Hard?

The answer to this question is yes, surprisingly so. There was a lot more to Patrick's preparation than just perfecting his poker face. He learned to reload weapons without looking, sprint without mouth breathing, and fire guns without blinking. They're probably not things you consciously noticed while watching him in action, but you can be sure they helped make him so unnervingly convincing.
