This Is The Most Authentic Modern War Movie, Confirmed
Find out what other movies depict cool jobs well in my latest article for Listverse.com.
A little while ago, I wrote about how good listicles begin with one interesting idea, the kind that I save on this blog. So I thought I'd share one today that got turned into a real, published article, and even made it onto the publishing site's 'Popular' list. The article is called '10 Movies That Get Elite Jobs Right, According to Experts,' and what gave me this idea was a BBC article about the 2025 movie, Warfare.Warfare: Not For Normal Audiences
Films like The Hurt Locker, American Sniper, and so forth play fast and loose with the reality of modern war zones. That's entertainment for you, and it's what general audiences want. But Warfare doesn't do that. It doesn't translate the jargon the soldiers use. It doesn't even add music. That's because, according to its creators, it's not for general audiences. Instead, it's for the guys who were there, and specifically one who had trouble remembering the event depicted in the movie.
Expanding The Concept
Warfare depicts a true story from the Iraq War. However, I noticed it wasn't just being praised for its accurate depiction of that event. It was praised for its accurate depiction of modern warfare in general. That got me wondering what other movies portray interesting professions like soldiering well. I searched for 'realistic films' online and found lots of articles about movies based on real events, but none about movies that portray cool jobs well, even if the story is fictional.
Asking the Experts
However, there have been many cases where experts who have done those jobs have given their opinions on films about them. A whole subgenre of Youtube video is built around this, so it was fairly easy to find examples that could be curated into a list. I found movies that do a good job of showing the realities of spying, flying, firefighting, hostage negotiation, and much more, as confirmed by people who've really been there and done it.
If you're someone who likes to theme the films they watch, I think this could definitely be a good one for you. Check it out on Listverse.
